An engaging unit on The Crucible by Arthur Miller that scaffolds students into developing insightful readings of the text.
A favourite text among English teachers, “The Crucible” has a number of themes that appeal to students and effectively integrates some really nice language features along the way. This unit provides varied, learner-centered activities that introduce students to the context of the play, get them thinking about the language features and their effects and give multiple opportunities to present this learning individually and in groups. It also provides opportunities for developing an understanding of the text through dramatic performance and possible links with various achievement standards and existing writing programmes.
