Beginning an inquiry

FOCUS ON THE PROCESS

The sheet below asks you to think about the process that you might go through as part of an inquiry. You need to fill in the sheet below and give it to your teacher who will keep it until you have finished your inquiry.

Beginning An Inquiry

Imagine that you are going to inquire into the controversy about whether computer games are good or bad. Where will you start?

Imagine that your teacher has given you half an hour in class to make a start on your inquiry. Think carefully about what you would do, and explain the process you would go through. Some of the options below might help you, but you do not have to use these ideas or limit yourself to these ideas.

  • searching on google
  • going to the library
  • asking other people what they think
  • brainstorming what you know about the topic already
  • coming up with some questions that you want to find the answers to
  • ringing/ emailing the TV stations
  • looking in the newspaper
  • thinking about useful search terms to use to look for information
  • taking some notes from google

Here are some sentence starters which you might find useful, but you do not have to use them.

  • Firstly I would….
  • Then I would……
  • Once I have ……..
  • I would then….
