Learning task 5: Typefaces

The associations conveyed by the graphic design, especially the choice of typeface can reinforce or contradict the meaning of the words.

Here is a list of contrasting concepts:

  • Love v Hate Beauty v Ugliness
    Truth v Lies Real v Image
    Right v Wrong Strong v Weak
    Aggressive v Assertive Loneliness v Solitude
    Rational v Irrational Panic v Calm
    Organised v Chaos Healthy v Sick

Using a Word Processing package, present five of the above contrasting concepts alongside each other, accentuating the differences between them by making use of differing:

  • Font Style
  • Font Size
  • Font Colour
  • Bold, Italic, Underline
  • Perspective
  • Any other composition techniques

Annotate three of your compositions, describing the techniques you used and the effects you wished to achieve.
