Learning task 5

Using what you already know

Students read the know_already (RTF 27KB) resource which provides an explanation of the value of linking prior knowledge to the text.

The 'What do I Already Know?' resource directs students to texts

Using the links_worksheet (RTF 40KB) , students are asked to list their prior knowledge relating to the texts.

Check that the student understands the concept of linking prior knowledge to the texts provided. This is not an assessment of what is known, for it is conceivable that the student has no prior knowledge to link, it is a test of the ability to make such links where they may exist. Provide assistance where necessary.

Invite the student to complete the putting_together1 (RTF 50KB) and activities. When these activities can be competently completed, the student is ready for assessment. These activities will highlight any areas of weakness, some individual tuition may be required to address any areas of concern.
