Exploring Language Using appropriate terminology, describe, discuss, analyse and apply the distinctive conventions, structures and language features of a range of poems and explain how they suit the topic and purpose.
Thinking Critically Analyse short written texts, exploring and identifying attitudes and beliefs in terms of personal experience and knowledge of other texts.

Poetic Writing Write on a variety of topics, shaping, editing and reworking texts, selecting appropriate language features and using conventions of writing accurately and confidently.

Introduction

In this activity students explore writing and performing poetry in various forms. This process will, however, readily adapt to the teaching of any literary form. This unit provides summative assessment for AS90059 (English 1.8): Produce a media or dramatic presentation .

Assessment

Students should use the Web Designer assessment activity as they develop web page designs for their selected poems for AS90059 (English 1.8): Produce a Media or Dramatic Presentation (summative).

Students can incorporate ideas and analysis completed during this unit for formative pieces for the external achievement standard AS90055 (English 1.4): Read, Study and Understand a Number of Short Written Texts (formative).
