schedule (RTF 57KB)

Assessment Task

  • Students design a wharenui (RTF 11KB) to represent characters, character relationships, deeds and central ideas of The Whalerider. The wharenui could be presented as a static image, in 3D form or be developed using computer graphics.
  • Students could write writing (RTF 9KB) pieces that complement the main ideas contained in the wharenui model in a writing workshop. The pieces could include a range of genre of which two pieces could be crafted to publication stage for assessment for achievement standard 2.1 .
  • Design a presentation, which may make use of several media (eg. 3D, static image explanation, OH projector, computer, video, audio), using the wharenui and poetic pieces for a selected audience. Students should practise explaining the parts of the Wharenui in relation to their main ideas about the The Whalerider.

See planning (RTF 552KB) from the assessment resource Tell Me About It (PDF) as a guide to the preparation of your presentation.
