Introduction

"Language is a manipulator" is a language research unit which will not only help students meet AS90726 (English 3.7): Complete independent research on a language or literature topic and present findings in written form , but it will also help develop their information literacy.

The unit models process (RTF 178KB) to students and steps them through the process so that, by the end of the modelled unit, students will be able to choose their own topic for independent research and to follow through the research process, culminating in the writing of a report on their own topic.

To meet the requirements of the standard, students need to be able to construct new understandings from their findings. Following a defined research process will give students a way of building up ideas which they can then turn into logical and creative conclusions.

The Research Process consists of 8 stages:
