Explore, identify and discuss some figurative language features used by writers, and adapt and use some of these features and ideas in their own writing.
Viewing
Exploring Language
Identify the meaning and purpose of some verbal and visual language features on personal cards, and adapt and use some of these when designing their own cards.
Thinking Critically Discuss how visual and verbal features including figurative language can be combined effectively, to give a special personal message.
Processing Information Organize and present a personal card, for a known audience, either electronically or freehand.

Viewing Identify and respond to the visual and verbal features used in personal Mother's Day cards.
Close Reading Read, discuss, clarify, and return to the text to retrieve key facts and ideas, relating to Mother's Day.

 

Introduction

This unit need not be restricted to mothers. Be sensitive to your students' family circumstances and make it just as acceptable to write this card for a father, grandmother or other caregiver. Teachers can adapt and use this unit from Year 1 to Year 10.
