Learning task 1: Introduction

Set up a learning-1 (RTF 42KB) with a wide selection of Grimm's fairy tales to meet the reading abilities of the students in the class.

Students will keep a reading_log (RTF 30KB) throughout the unit.
Introduction - Read to the class one of the Grimm Brothers' fairy tales eg. The Musicians of Bremen.
On a map of the world find Germany - home of the Brothers Grimm. Find out information about the life of the Grimm Brothers.
Discuss, in groups or pairs, the features of fairy tales.
Discuss the structure of a fairy tale - title, characters, setting, plot (what was the problem?), solution (how was the problem solved?).
Sequence the events in the story.

Register
