Assessment
Summative assessment is two-fold. First assessment is by way of students producing their own socio-political cartoon.
Task 1: To create a cartoon that visually communicates to a "reader" aspects of characters or themes from any social or political event. This could be based on culture, race, gender, education, etc. Use of symbols is a very powerful method of communicating your ideas - try to incorporate them into your work. Quotations attributed to persons being represented can aid your presentation. A note on visual and language techniques: meaningful choice of colours, shape, layout, patterns, subject matter and lettering symbolism is important! For example, dark, moody, subdued colours for tragedy, political intrigue, domestic violence and unemployment. Use proper selection of symbols to match the subject matter and so on.
